Mass of Christian Burial for Hugh Porter Anderson, 85, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Kannampuzha and Fr. Joby Thomas officiating. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Anderson was born February 21, 1939 in Houston, Texas to the late Mildred (Porter) and Hugh Frederick Anderson, and died Saturday, March 23, 2024 in a local hospital.
Mr. Anderson graduated from Texas A&M University, Class of 1961, as a chemical engineer. He moved to Lufkin in 1968 and began his career at Southland Paper Mill, where he worked for 30 years, until his retirement in 1998. He was an amazing Dad who taught his children the love of the outdoors and continued the tradition of three more Texas A&M graduates. Mr. Anderson was a long time member of the Lufkin Roundtable, established in 1989, supporting the youth and community of Lufkin. In 1991, he married his loving wife, Linda, sharing the love of traveling and spending time with family. He was a founding member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church and was an active member serving the parish. Mr. Anderson loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed spending his summers in Georgetown, Colorado jeeping through the Colorado mountains. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be greatly missed for his storytelling, cooking and love of food.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 32 years, Linda Anderson of Lufkin; daughter, Lisa Kuers of Celina; son, Hugh Frederick Anderson II and wife Alice of Dallas; daughter, Tracy Irby and husband Joseph of Chandler, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Hugh Frederick Anderson III and wife Liz of Dallas, Katherine Mangel and husband Andrew of Houston, Rachel Kuers, Zachary Kuers, Jacob Kuers, all of Celina, Drake Irby of Norman, Oklahoma, Claire Irby of Edmond, Oklahoma; sisters, Jane Anderson of Lufkin, Pauline Mountain and husband Pat of Magnolia; brother, Jim Anderson and wife Donna of Houston; in-laws, David Eck and wife Colleen of Coppell, Kathy Williamson and husband Jack of New Braunfels, Michael Eck and wife Hyesung of Brookline, Massachusetts, Beth Czerniakowski and husband Pete of The Woodlands; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judy Anderson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at Carroway Funeral Home with the Rosary following from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.
