Funeral services for Howard “Blondie” Hartnett, 92, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charles Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Hartnett was born July 10, 1925 in the Rocky Hill Community in Angelina County, Texas to the late Eura Lee (Jones) and William Michael Hartnett, and went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 13, 2018.
Mr. Hartnett had resided in Lufkin all of his life. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Carter Hall, participating in six out of the seven invasions in the Southern Pacific during World War II. After returning from the war he met and married the love of his life, Marjorie. They were married 62 years and held hands everywhere they went. Going to the Navy reunions was something he thoroughly enjoyed. He retired as an Electrical Supervisor for Southland Paper Mill after 44 years of service. Mr. Hartnett was a 32

Degree mason with the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M. After joining Herty Baptist Church in 1953, he served as a Deacon and Treasurer for many years. He loved to work, farming, raising cattle, and he always had a big garden. He loved going to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at dance recitals and playing sports. He also loved taking RV trips all over the United States with Marjorie and the grandkids.
Survivors include his son, Mike Hartnett and wife Kay of Lufkin; granddaughters, Molly Hartnett Bennett and husband Richmond of Beaumont and Missy Berry and husband Brad of Lufkin; grandson, Matt Hartnett and wife Rachael of Copperas Cove; great-grandchildren, Ben, Ella, and Oliver Howard Bennett of Beaumont, Claire Berry of Lufkin, and Mady, Hunter, and Ally Hartnett of Copperas Cove; sister, Clara Jo Youngblood and husband Leo of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie Hartnett; brother, Burl Hartnett; and sisters, Mildred Jones and Betty Pryor.
Pallbearers will be Richmond Bennett, Brad Berry, Matt Hartnett, Ben Bennett, David Murphy, Bubba Loggins, Bill Pryor, Bob Castleberry, and Robert Loggins.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons at Herty Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Herty Baptist Church Building Fund, 2914 Atkinson Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family would like to express special thanks to Lindsey, Kevin, Carlita, and Tracy with Hospice in the Pines and to Dr. Moran his staff.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
