Memorial services for Herman LeRoy “Maniac” Mitchell, 68, of Corrigan will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charlie Hodge officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
LeRoy was born January 2, 1958 in Kirbyville, Texas to the late Mildred Helen (Cochran) and J.K. Mitchell, and died Wednesday, May 20, 2026 in Lufkin. He had resided in Corrigan since 1972 and was a truck driver for Hughes Trucking.
LeRoy was a quiet and reserved man whose steady presence brought peace to those around him. Though serious in his dealings, it was only because he took people, relationships, and life itself sincerely. LeRoy valued a close circle of friends and was not quick to open up, but once he knew and trusted you, his loyalty and character spoke for themselves.
He found his greatest joy outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Time spent along the river was sacred to him, offering a place for quiet reflection and peace away from the noise of the world. LeRoy appreciated life’s simple comforts - a cup of black coffee throughout the day, good home-cooked soul food, and his beloved Converse shoes, which he insisted were the most comfortable shoes on earth. He understood the value of slowing down and savoring small moments.
LeRoy was humble in both his worship and his relationship with his Savior. In the later years of his life, he made his faith and salvation a true priority, faithfully wearing his son’s cross necklace until the very end. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially in the quiet places along the riverbank where his memory will linger most.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Keila Mitchell of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Courtney and Rafael Morales of Beaumont; grandchildren, Baylee Mitchell, Aleigh Thompson, Brandon Morales, Chloe Morales, and Karleigh Morales; brother and sister-in-law, Leslie Jay and Janell Mitchell; sisters, Linda Caswell, Tammy Smith, and Laurie Mitchell; and number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Johnny Wayne Mitchell.
