Funeral services for Herman Ray Dominey, 89, of Huntington will be held Monday, April 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Irvin McWilliams and Brother Byron Smith officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Manning Cemetery.
Mr. Dominey was born October 13, 1934 in the Shawnee Prairie Community of Angelina County, Texas to the late Mattie Bell (Poland) and Victor Dominey, and died Thursday, April 18, 2024 at his residence.
Herman graduated from Kingsville High School and received his Mechanical Engineering degree from Kingsville A&I, which is now Texas A&M Kingsville. After graduating from college, he served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed all over Europe. He opened Dominey’s Garage in Huntington in 1972, which he owned and operated for more than 40 years. While growing up, Herman worked at his dad’s service station, where he met Emily. She would stop by for gas every day, whether she needed it or not. As the gas pumped, the sparks flew, and he married the love of his life. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family and time spent with them.
Survivors include his daughters, Melissa Holcombe and husband Jerry, Sharon Dominey Sides and husband Gary, all of Huntington; son, David Dominey of Huntington; grandchildren and spouses, DeWayne and Tiffany Roberts of Lufkin, Sarah and Derek Wales of Temple, Mattie Marberry of Spring, Jerrod and Sarah Holcombe of Lufkin; sister, Joyice McWilliams of Diboll; brother, Darvin Dominey and wife Dennie of Lufkin; brother-in-law, Bob Thurston and wife Judy of Liberty Hill; sister-in-law, Sug Roller and husband Butch of Moran; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years in 2021, Emily Dominey; daughter, Robin Denise Ivy; granddaughter, Emily Nicole Marberry; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Jerry Pritchett; and brother-in-law, Irvin McWilliams, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Derek Wales, Ben Wilroy, DeWayne Roberts, Glenn Dominey, Tommy Carrell, and Jonathan Sides.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
