Helen Louise (Modisette) Ladd

January 24, 1932 — October 22, 2024

Funeral services for Helen Louise (Modisette) Ladd, 92, of Pollok will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Kenny Modisette and Brother Travis Bundrick officiating. Interment will follow in Gann Cemetery.

Helen was born January 24, 1932 in Pollok, Texas, number 7 of 7 children, to the late John Isum Modisette and Lidia Elnora “Nora” (Martin) Modisette, and died Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at her residence.

When Thomas was in basic training Helen did tailoring for some of the Army men on their uniforms, in California and Georgia and at paratroopers training. After they got out of the service they came back to Pollok, and they built their house on what is now John Modisette Road with the help of Helen's dad John Modisette, Thomas's dad Thomas Fred, and Tom's brother BC Ladd. Helen worked at the Trailer Plant with Bill Pennington doing time keeping. She also worked with Thomas, doing the Green Stamp program at Lufkin Industries in the Foundry Department. Green stamps were given to employees for perfect attendance. Helen took care of her family by taking her sisters, Mamie, Lena Mae and Mildred, to Doctor appointments, her aunts to the grocery store, and anything else needed. She didn't work outside the home until their daughter was out of school and on her own. She made her clothes while she was in school, and she made quilts by hand that she has given to many family members. Thomas was very proud of his wife; she helped in his deacon work at Clawson Baptist, Memorial Baptist, and Keltys Baptist Churches until his sickness kept him from attending church in 2018. They were both very dedicated Christians and were always helping the Seniors at Keltys, by many calls and visits. They both loved their grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Thomas Teague of Pollok; grandson and wife, Thomas Michael and Eurie Hardage of Henderson; granddaughter and husband, Kalyn Dianne and Daniel Manzelmann of Nashville, Tennessee; great-grandson, Jaxson Daniel Manzelmann of Nashville, Tennessee; great-granddaughter, Rylie Apple of Henderson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John Isum Modisette and Lidia Elnora “Nora” (Martin) Modisette; husband, Thomas Lee Ladd; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elbert and Dorothy Modisette, John Morris and Mary Beth Modisette, and Leonard and Velma Dee Modisette; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mamie and Cleo O’Quinn, Lena Mae and Otto Edwards, and Mildred Mott; niece, Gwen Atteberry; and nephews, Dennis Modisette, Collis Modisette, and Billy Modisette.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Richardson, Danny Manzelmann, Michael Hardage, Penn Bagnell, Victor Garcia, Kenny Modisette, and Bob Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Berry Kidwell, Bill Anthony, and Jaxson Manzelmann.

The family extends special thank you’s to Dr Bacchireddy, for his awesome care since he has been in Lufkin, her nephews, Bill Anthony for helping take her to many appointments, as well as Kenny and Jeannie Modisette, for the countless visits and appointments, all showing the love she needed after her sweetheart Thomas went home to be with his Heavenly Father our Lord.
