Mrs. Douglas was born October 23, 1923 in England, Arkansas to the late Ann Elizabeth (Shingleton) and Corbin Dewey Johnson, and died Sunday, December 31, 2017 in Lufkin.

Mrs. Douglas had resided in Lufkin since 1961. She was a graduate of Longview High School and attended Dodd College in Shreveport, Louisiana. In 1987 at the age of 64, she earned an Associates Degree in Art Education from Angelina College. Mrs. Douglas was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity of the Community and Junior College in 1984.

Mrs. Douglas was a loving mother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, and friend. She was passionate about the arts, spending 34 years oil painting, as well as water colors and pastels. The first painting entered in her painting log was “Tea Time”, painted in April 1965, and the last painting in her log was #1677 “Bird Nest”, painted November 1999. She is remembered for her paintings seen in many venues and displayed in many homes. She especially enjoyed all the art courses taught by Mary Read, and made friends with people who loved art as she did. After graduation she continued to sit in and paint with friends in Mary’s art classes. In her later years her creativity found expression through quilting. Mrs. Douglas had been a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lufkin for 56 years.
