Funeral services for Hazel Morehead, 85, of Huntington will be held Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church with Reverend John Boone and Reverend Randall McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Rocky Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Morehead was born August 21, 1940 in Loeb, Texas to the late Hazel Ellen (Cooper) and Hugh Vestal, and passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025 in a local nursing home.
Hazel was a devoted homemaker and a faithful member of Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church. She loved her church family and was deeply committed to her faith. She took great pride in her family and treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Robert “Bob” Brockett of Huntington, Lesia and Randal Rich of Lufkin, and Carrie Morehead and James Coody of Nederland; grandchildren and spouses, Leslie and Jon Davis of Huntington, Monica and Billy Arnold of Nacogdoches, Bryan and Caressa Golden of Conroe, Rebekah and Philip Frankens of Huntington, Heather and Paul Johnson of Huntington, Calen and Kaytlyn Morehead of Huntington, and Halee and Brandon Elliot of Richmond; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Kathryn Bentley; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Linda Vestal; sisters-in-law, Faye Pollino, Maxine Morehead, and Dell Morehead; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Vestal and Hazel (Cooper) Quarles; husband, W.J. Morehead; son, Christopher “Pete” Morehead; brothers, L.B. Vestal and Bobby Vestal; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lonnie and Genese Vestal, Prentis and Oleta Morehead, Henry and Janet Morehead, Travis “Boots” and Jackie Morehead, Horace and Myrl McCoy, Wadus “Tot” Morehead, Verble Morehead, LaMorris Morehead, John Pollino, George Bentley, and Phynice Fuller.
Pallbearers will be Jon Davis, Bryan Golden, Hardy Frankens, Calen Morehead, Sloan Page, and Joey Vestal.
Honorary pallbearers and escorts will be Chad Wilson, Kyle Wilson, and Grant Wilson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church, 1407 Ellis Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family extends special thanks to Huntington Healthcare and Rehabilitation and Harbor Hospice for their excellent care of Hazel.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Carroway Funeral Home in Lufkin.
