Gradon Joe Courtney

Funeral services for Gradon Joe Courtney, Sr., 80, of Zavalla will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Saron Baptist Church with Brother Van Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cameron Cemetery.

Mr. Courtney was born January 3, 1946 in Hemphill, Texas to the late Irene (Adkins) and William Frank Courtney, and died Friday, September 4, 2026 in a local hospital.

Gradon was a hard worker and spent his career as a truck driver in the logging business. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He always enjoyed making people laugh. More than anything else, he loved his family and was proud to have been married to Betty for 60 years. Gradon loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of Saron Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Song Leader.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Courtney; sons, Gradon Courtney, Jr. and wife Christina, Clifton Courtney and wife Dawn, Joey Courtney and wife Molina; grandchildren, Jordan Courtney and wife Audrey, Hannah Tarver and husband Casey, Ethan Courtney; great-grandchildren, Cayson Tarver, Landon Tarver, Dawson Tarver, Ava Courtney, Jackson Courtney; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all seven siblings.

Pallbearers will be Gradon Courtney, Clifton Courtney, Joey Courtney, Casey Tarver, Jordan Courtney ,and Tommy Courtney.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ethan Courtney and Lynn Courtney.

Any food donations may be brought to the church the day of the service.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the service at the church.
