Glenn Carrell

November 16, 1942 - August 18, 2022

Glenn Carrell , a faithful loving servant of God, went to be with Christ Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on August 18, 2022. Born and raised in East Texas and the Gulf Coast, Glenn was a devoted family man, preceded in death by his parents and by his loving wife of 48 years, Harriet. He is survived by his daughter Holly and husband Jim, and daughter Cherie and husband Roderick. As a young person, Glenn had a talent for basketball, which eventually led to a walk-on position on his college basketball team. While at university, he completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in math, leading to an early career teaching and coaching. Interested in technology, after completing a distance education course in computers and studying computer magazines and manuals, he taught himself programming, which eventually led to a position in computer services, assisting school districts with various aspects of data reporting.

Glenn believed in sharing his faith in Jesus Christ through service, participation in his local church, love of others, and love of his family. His church participation included teaching Royal Ambassadors, assisting his wife Harriet with Vacation Bible School, serving on projects with Texas Baptist Men, serving on pastor search committees and missions committees, serving as a deacon, and singing with his wife Harriet for many years in their church choir.  During his retirement, he and Harriet continued to share the hope of Jesus with children and their families through mission trips offering basketball, music, and Bible school clinics. Later in retirement, Glenn also became a devoted Gideon, passing out Bibles to students at local schools and visiting with local pastors. Glenn believed the words of the song, “Love is something you do,” and spent a lifetime working to show love through his actions.  He will be dearly missed, but has been an example of God’s love in the flesh, a teacher, a father, and friend to many.
