Funeral services for Glenda Collins Austin, 76, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Dennis White officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery. Mrs. Austin was born August 27, 1941 in Milligan Ridge, Arkansas to the late Bernice (Mosby) and Lonzo Rusher, and died Monday, September 4, 2017 in Tyler County. Formerly of Nacogdoches, Mrs. Austin had resided in Lufkin since 1991. She had worked as a teacher’s aide for Nacogdoches ISD and was a foster grandparent for Dunbar Primary School. Mrs. Austin was an excellent cook, and loved deer hunting and fishing. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lufkin Chapter 318. Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Ray Austin of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Elsie and Donald Walker of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Diane Collins of Woden, Gary and Vicky Collins of Nacogdoches, Alton and Shawn Collins of Garrison, and Alvin Collins of Nacogdoches; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Sue Rusher of Dayton and David and Jeanne Rusher of LaPorte; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel and Harold Rouse of Mont Belvieu and Gail and Edgar Alford of Jewett; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Terry Collins; and brother, Richard Rusher. Pallbearers will be Gary Collins, Joe Collins, Alton Collins, Alvin Collins, Colten Collins, and Daniel Banks. Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Collins, Henry Austin, and Donald Walker. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
