Graveside services with military honors for Gerald Stuart “Jerry” Tamplin, 80, of Nacogdoches will be held Sunday, May 25, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Largent Cemetery with Dr. Darryl Smith officiating.
Mr. Tamplin was born March 7, 1945 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Betty Jo (Evans) and William L. “Bill” Tamplin, and died Thursday, May 22, 2025 at his residence.
Mr. Tamplin began his career with the Houston Fire Department prior to serving in the U.S. Navy. After his time in the Navy he returned to the Houston Fire Department, receiving additional training as a paramedic to become an ambulance supervisor. He continued to climb the chain of command until he retired as Captain. During and after his career, Mr. Tamplin always helped where he could, utilizing his medical training by working as a telemetry technician and serving as EMT for the boys camp in Apple Springs. He also ran a sawmill.
Mr. Tamplin was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, and camp. He also loved gardening and farming, maintaining a provident living mindset caring for his homestead.
Survivors include his daughters, Lee Fuerst and husband Alex, Tamera Deaver and husband Jeff, and Amanda Minshew and husband James; son, Will Tamplin and wife Lindsey; grandchildren, Megan Barkdull and partner Drew Ownsabre, Matthew Fuerst and wife Shalom, Allison Fuerst, Trent Deaver, Wade Tamplin, and Madelyn Tamplin; great-grandson, Grayson Ownsabre; brother, Van Tamplin and wife Lennace; sister, Betty Marie Knott and husband Herb; niece, Melissa Krampota and husband Kenneth; and great-nieces, Reese and Emma Krampota.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Freida Fulford Tamplin.
The family extends special thanks to Ms. Patty, Ms. Penny and Ms. Jasmine for their continued support and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, 2102 S John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
