Gerald E. Forsythe

Funeral services for Gerald E. Forsythe, 75, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Steve Cowart officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mr. Forsythe was born September 6, 1948 in Galena Park, Texas to the late  Violet Raye (Singleton) and Willard Richard Forsythe, and died Friday, August 23, 2024 in The Woodlands, Texas.

Gerald worked in the Power Plant for the Paper Mill and was a Programmer at Lufkin Industries. He served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam in the Artillery Division. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Gerald was a man of many talents. He was an avid reader, loved restoring cars, did carpentry, was a talented photographer, a huge history buff, and enjoyed genealogy so much that he even travelled to Scotland to meet distant relatives. He was a member of the Captain Ike Turner Camp #1275 Texas Division and always looked forward to the many Civil War Reenactments they did. Gerald absolutely adored his grandchildren and was faithful to attend every event, game or activity they were involved in. His family recalls his clever sense of humor, his love for his Lord, and how he always put family first. He cherished family gatherings when they were all together sharing joyous celebrations. He was dearly loved and will be missed by many.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Eula (Waring) Forsythe of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Selina Forsythe of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Tamra and Stuart Norris of Montgomery, Angela and Alan Mathis of Fort Worth, April and Craig Purvis of Hudson; son, Alan Forsythe of Lufkin; grandchildren, Levi, Kali, Connor, Kalyn, Peyton, Troy, Mason, Haylee, Tessa, Jude, Bryson, Taylor, Kyle, Madison; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dwain and Linda Forsythe of Nacogdoches, David Forsythe of Lufkin, Mike and Heidi Forsythe of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Melba Darlene Forsythe; and brother, Mike Lowery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Forsythe, Craig Purvis, Stuart Norris, Gary Rowe, Keith Forsythe, and Nick Trout.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Vanderzand, JW Byars, Russ Bedard, Mickey Hollingsworth, Freddie Courtney, David Forsythe, Dwain Forsythe, and Dwayne Howell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, Cross Mission, 1641 FM 325, Lufkin, Texas 75901.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
