George "Joey" Tillar, Jr.

Funeral services for George “Joey” Tillar, Jr., 75, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mr. Tillar was born May 8, 1950 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Barbara Ellen (Ottney) and George Horman Tillar, Sr., and died Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Harbor Hospice in Jasper. He had resided in Lufkin 45 years. Mr. Tillar was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

He loved to ride his bicycle for miles and most people knew him as “The Can Man”. He loved monster trucks, remote control cars and trucks, and was a big fan of wrestling.

Survivors include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Robert Hicks of Grass Lake, Michigan, Ellen Phillips of Lufkin, and Patricia and Robby Williams of Broaddus; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Karen Tillar of Lufkin, and Billy and Judy Tillar of Polk City, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Daniel Tillar; brother, Jack Tillar; brother-in-law, Edward Phillips; and grandparents, Daniel and Susan Tillar, and Leo and Bernice Ottney.

Pallbearers will be Billy Tillar, Michael Tillar, Daniel Tillar, Jacob Anderson, Jeff Awtrey, and Denny Kio.

The family extends special thanks to his nurse, Rhonda Hayes.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
