Graveside services for George A. Branton, 83, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Rock Springs Cemetery in Nacogdoches County with Robert Warren officiating.
Mr. Branton was born February 22, 1934 in Nacogdoches County, Texas to the late Myrtle (Cole) and William Buren Branton, and died Monday, January 15, 2018 in a local nursing home.
Mr. Branton was a longtime resident of Lufkin. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from Lufkin Industries following 42 years of employment. He enjoyed doing metal work and the outdoors, including working his cattle, hunting and fishing. Mr. Branton was a member of Rock Springs Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lillie Jo Branton of Lufkin; son, Joe R. Branton of Lufkin; granddaughter, Courtney Reed Branton of Nacogdoches; sister, Claudine Whitehead of Linn Flat; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Laverne Branton of Nacogdoches and Ann and Marvin McKown of Mesquite; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Punk Branton and Cecil Branton; and sister, Mable Hairgrove.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
