Gary Dean Boyd,Sr.

Graveside services with military honors for Gary Dean Boyd, Sr., 84, of Lufkin will be announced as soon as arrangements have been finalized.

Mr. Boyd was born December 3, 1941 in El Dorado, Arkansas to the late Hattie Lucille (Wolfe) and James Ceal Boyd, and passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones.

Gary had resided in Lufkin most of his life. He retired from Lufkin Industries after 34 years of service in the saw shop. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Gary had a deep love for the outdoors and was rarely happier than when he was in his barn, busy with a project. He found great joy in woodworking, fishing, and hunting—pursuits that reflected both his skillful hands and his appreciation for a life well lived. After retiring from Lufkin Industries, he took great pride in briefly operating the train at the Ellen Trout Zoo, a role that brought him genuine happiness. In his later years, Gary devoted himself to what he believed mattered most: time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Above all, he cherished the years shared with his beloved wife, whose companionship and love remained at the very heart of his life.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Dottie Boyd of Lufkin; son, Gary D. Boyd, Jr. and wife Sharon of Kennard; daughter, Shellie Allen and husband Chad of Allentown; son, Jeff Maxon of Lufkin; grandchildren, Casin Boyd and wife Daisy, Chaz Boyd, Danyele Maxon and husband Tony Rodriguez, Brittany Maxon, Ty Allen, Carson Allen, Ashton Allen; great-grandchildren, Aiden Rodriguez, Otto Sims, Maeve Sims, Paisley Ann Allen; sister, Lynda Dodd of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
