Garland "Dimp" Powell, Jr.

Graveside services for Garland “Dimp” Powell, Jr., 89, of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. in Fielder Memorial Cemetery with Brother Matthew Tatum officiating. Military honors will be provided by a United States Navy Honor Guard.

Mr. Powell was born January 30, 1930, in the Fuller Springs Community of Angelina County, Texas, to the late Minnie (Croom) and Garland Powell, Sr., and died Sunday, August 11, 2019 at his residence.

Mr. Powell was the owner of Powell Carpets. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy.  He saw service aboard the USS Mount McKinley and the USS Valley Forge, and had been a prisoner of war. He enjoyed fixing small engines, old country music, being a ladies’ man, cooking and staying busy.

Mr. Powell is survived by many good friends. He was preceded in death by his children, Rhonda, Lisa, and Allen Powell; his parents; and his brother, Allen Otto Powell.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Havard, Chad Sachitano, Billy Kervin, Dalton Havard, Wesley Gilcrease, and Trae Parrish.
