Funeral services for Gale Vohs, 66, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Vohs and Pastor Steve Comstock officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Gale was born May 5, 1952 in Sandpoint, Idaho to the late Katherine (Schur) and John Fredrick Vohs. He grew up in Heron, Montana where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He died Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at his residence.
Gale is now with the one he loved the most, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a loving and caring man. He uplifted other people’s spirits with his joyful and sincere nature. Gale was a devoted man to his family and church. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren were his world.
Gale was a faithful member and board member at First Assembly of God Diboll. He battled cancer for 11 years. He never complained once but kept the faith, had a smile on his face, and a praise in his heart.
Gale enjoyed sports. Since childhood, he enjoyed being a fan of the San Francisco Giants. He supported Angelina College men and women’s athletics and was proud of the 2014 National Championship softball team.
Gale served in the United States Army for three years and was stationed in Berlin, Germany for most of it. He was employed at Angelina College for 15 years as the Security Coordinator.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Wanda (Joles) Vohs of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Josh Vohs of Dallas, Michael and Kimberly Vohs of Diboll, James and Rebecca Vohs of Missouri, and Mark and Natalie Vohs of Lufkin; grandchildren, Zeb and Zoe Vohs, Elizabeth, Lillian and Samantha Vohs; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Leon Groff of Washington; brother and sister-in-law, Damon and Claudine Vohs of Missouri; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers will be Everett Joles, Steve Capps, Harold Grimes, David Murphy, Gary Stokes and Cary Lucas.
Honorary pallbearer will be Curtis Joles.
The family would like to say “thank you” to MD Anderson and a special thank you to Yolanda Straughter, his PA, and Dr. Zurita.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God Diboll, 100 E. Bordon Street, Diboll, Texas 75941.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
