A Celebration of Life for Freddie Kent Flournoy will be held Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Forrest Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Zavalla Cemetery.
Freddie Kent Flournoy, age 71, of Jasper, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, at the Harbor Hospice Inpatient Facility in Jasper, Texas. He was born on December 27, 1953, in Lufkin, Texas, to Brady and Vernell (Crain) Flournoy.
Freddie grew up in Lufkin and graduated from Zavalla High School in 1972. He spent his early years working in the auto repair business before transitioning to a fulfilling career as a Wildlife Biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife, where he served for many years. His passion for nature and the outdoors was evident in everything he did, from hunting and fishing to cultivating a large vegetable garden each year.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Freddie was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cecilia Renfro Flournoy, with whom he shared many adventures, both in life and in their dedication to helping others. Together, they were key volunteers with the Diboll 4H program, and their pig breeding operation provided invaluable swine projects to students throughout the region.
Freddie’s legacy also lives on through his children and grandchildren: daughter, Janie and her husband William Carroll of Carthage; son, William and his wife Jamie Flournoy of Jasper; granddaughters, Kaylen (Brenton) Humphries of Carthage, Katie Thomas of Carthage, AbbieAnn, AddieMay, and AmmieLee Flournoy, all of Jasper, and great-grandson, Aiden Humphries of Carthage; his mother-in-law, Joyce Renfro of Zavalla, his sisters-in-law, Sharon Flournoy and Patricia (Bill) Jones, both of Lufkin, and his brother-in-law, John David Renfro (Anna) of Zavalla. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who cherished him deeply.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, Brady and Nell Flournoy; his brothers, Gerald and Ronnie Flournoy; his beloved nephew, Kevin Crain; and his special cousin, David Crain, who was like a brother to him.
A man of great creativity, Freddie was known for his innovative carpentry skills, often designing and building unique solutions to everyday problems - a talent he honed at Cecilia’s direction. “Fred will build something” became the go-to response to any challenge, as Freddie’s inventive spirit never faltered.
Pallbearers will be Kim Reynolds, John David Renfro, Cody Scott, Kirk Risinger, Brad Ivy, John Sikes, Chase Mott, and Brenton Humphries.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Jones, Doug Baldree, Arthur Murrell Jones, and Thomas Lowther.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Diboll 4-H Club, 1310 Bounds Road, Diboll, Texas 75941, or the charity of your choice in Freddie’s memory.
He will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to the land, his creative spirit, and his ability to solve any problem with his hands and heart.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
