Francisca "Panchita" Mercado

Mass of Christian Burial for Francisca Mercado, 83, of Corrigan will be held Monday, January 12, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Church with Reverend Paul Kahan officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening in the Carroway Funeral Home Corrigan Chapel.

Mrs. Mercado was born May 4, 1942 in Villa de Juarez, Coahuila, Mexico to the late Guadalupe (De Leon) and Pedro Ortiz Rodriguez, and passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026 in a local hospital.

My mother was always a housewife. When we were children, she dedicated herself to raising and educating us. She never worked while we grew up, all her time was dedicated to us.

She liked to sew on a machine, she was a seamstress in Piedras Negras, Coahuila. She studied first aid and injected a lot of people. She made piñatas and was always a very hard worker. She loved gardening. She also worked at Pilgrim’s Pride, at which time she no longer had children to take care of. She became a citizen and when she was disabled from her last job, she only dedicated herself to taking care of my father who was sick and the house.

She was a warrior. More than two years ago, she had several surgeries and overcame them as an 81-year-old person.

She was a good wife, a good mother, and grandmother of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Blessed to have great family descendancy.

Survivors include her children and spouses, Jose Elias Mercado and wife Martha of Corrigan, Texas, Olga A. Oliva of Corrigan, Texas, Hector M. Mercado and wife Elia of Pilot Point, Texas, Francisco Mercado and wife Aurora of Corrigan, Texas, Pedro E. Mercado and wife Lori of Corrigan, Texas, and Roberto J. Mercado and wife Idalia of Livingston, Texas; grandchildren, Jose F. Oliva, Roberto C. Mercado, Jennifer Leahy, Erika Rojo, Jose E. Mercado, Jessica Dominguez, Hector J. Mercado, Monica Wood, Diana Mercado, +Pedrito E. Mercado, Daniel M. Mercado, Myranda R. Mercado, Xavier Mercado, and Lizzett Olivares; twenty-two great-grandchildren; siblings, Juany De Cortez, Socorro De La Cruz, Armandina Chong, Roberto Ortiz, Jesus Ortiz, Araceli Ortiz; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elias Mercado; and grandson, Pedrito Elias Mercado.

Pallbearers will be Jose Elias Mercado, Hector M. Mercado, Francisco Mercado, Pedro E. Mercado, Roberto J. Mercado, and Jose F. Oliva.

Honorary pallbearer will be Olga A. Oliva.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday evening at the funeral home.
