Funeral services for Fayrene Cox, 91, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin Poage officiating. Interment will follow in Largent Cemetery.

Mrs. Cox was born May 3, 1933 in Center, Texas to the late Tommie Ray and Sudie Mae (Lewis) Watson, and died Thursday, December 5, 2024 in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Cox had resided in Angelina County most of her life. She graduated from Central Consolidated High School, Pollok, Texas, as Valedictorian. She graduated from Southwestern Bible Institute as Salutatorian with an Associates Degree in Bookkeeping. She had previously been employed as a secretary at Angelina Hardwood Sales and also a Deputy County Clerk for Angelina County. She was co-owner of Cox Garage with her husband, Granville Cox, and served as bookkeeper for the business until he retired.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and kept them while their parents worked when they were young. She enjoyed gardening vegetables and working in the yard. Mrs. Cox enjoyed having her family together during holidays.

Mrs. Cox was a member of Clawson Assembly of God most of her life and served in several positions for the church. She played the piano and organ for 65 years. She started playing the piano for the church at age 13. Mrs. Cox also served as CA director, Sunday school teacher, WM leader, bereavement coordinator, and prayer chain coordinator.

Survivors include her daughter, Pam Grote of Lufkin; son, Brent Cox and wife Sharon of Lufkin; grandchildren, Justina Shoffitt of Pollok, Kassy Moore and husband Dylan of Cypress, Nick Cox and wife Dakota of Kingwood, Camille Madden and husband Ryan of Houston, Carson Cox, and Natalie Cox, both of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Cooper Cox, and Lyla Shoffitt of Pollok; brother, Tommie Floyce Watson of Hudson; sister-in-law, Othella Cox of Woodville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Granville Cox; parents, Tommie Ray and Sudie Mae Watson; sister, Betty Edwards; and son-in-law, Don Grote.

Pallbearers will be Nick Cox, Carson Cox, Jeff Edwards, Jason Morgan, Jared Edwards, and Jacob Edwards.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon prior to the services.
