Funeral services for Evelyn Fay (Chenault) Clegg, 89, of Zavalla will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Pastor Sergio Carbajal, Reverend Cary Modisett and Nancy Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Chester.
Mrs. Clegg was born November 6, 1928 in Millican, Texas to the late Beulah (Bates) and W.I. “Bill” Chenault, and died Friday, May 4, 2018 at her residence.
Mrs. Clegg had resided in Zavalla for 26 years. She taught school for more than 30 years at LaGrange ISD, Huntington ISD, and Zavalla ISD. She and her husband were founding members of Texas Airstream Harbor International (TAHI). Mrs. Clegg was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Huntington Chapter No. 938 (District 4). She loved hunting for arrowheads, polishing rocks, and was an avid reader. Mrs. Clegg attended Zavalla First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Lloyd and Charmaine Clegg of Crosby, Jeannette and Gib Brown of Amarillo, Cindy Gilliam of Zavalla, Shelly and Mike Pelton, Jimmy and Tammie Clegg, all of Huntington, and Tommy Thomas of Crosby; grandchildren, Kristi Kirkpatrick, Mandy Carbajal, Wes Brown, Daniel Pelton, Jennifer Gilliam, Nathan Brown, Chris Pelton, Melanie Zuniga, Kaitlin Brown, Will Brown, Laura Plopper, Connor Clegg, James “Deuce” Clegg, Brittany LeJeune, Meagan LeJeune, and Allison LeJeune; great-grandchildren, Madelynn Zuniga, Ryan Slocum, Henry Brown, Cameron Pelton, Elinor Carbajal, Evelyn Carbajal, Stella Pelton, Jasper Brown, Bryson Plopper, Isaac Pelton, Vanessa Zuniga, Eliza Carbajal, Daniel J. Pelton, and Riley K. Rhea; sister, Helen Chapin of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and a number of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon Riley Clegg; brother, Billy Lloyd Chenault; granddaughter, Reagan Clegg; and stepchildren, Judy Peltier, Lynda Cox, and Billy Clegg.
Pallbearers will be Wes Brown, Daniel Pelton, Nathan Brown, Chris Pelton, Will Brown, Connor Clegg, and James “Deuce” Clegg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kidney Care of East Texas, 409 Gaslight Blvd., Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
