Evelyn A. Burklow

December 17, 1927 — May 31, 2018

A Celebration of Life service for Evelyn A. Burklow, 90, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. in the Henderson Chapel of Lufkin First United Methodist Church with Reverend Laura Campbell officiating. Private interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Evelyn was born to Minnie (Barr) and Frank Escol Jenkins December 17, 1927 in Fort Worth, Texas, and died peacefully Thursday, May 31, 2018 in Lufkin, surrounded by her loving family.

Evelyn wrote a brief summary of her life for the MRC PineCrest Retirement Community newsletter that best describes her 90 years of life: “I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, to the best parents a child could have. I had one brother and one sister. I had a very happy childhood with lots of laughter. My father worked for the railroad and he always had a good job during the Depression. We were able to travel a lot by train. My mother was the funny one of the family and we called her Minnie HaHa. I was a very social person. I loved to be around people and they enjoyed being around me. I met my husband when he was in college and I was working for a department store. We got married in 1952, and lived in Dallas, Houston and Tampa, Florida, where we lived on the water. We moved back to Houston where I worked for several dentists. We loved to dance and travel. My husband and I had a lot of good times together with friends and family.”

Evelyn was fun-loving, artistic, creative, funny and loving. She enjoyed traveling, playing golf, gardening, collecting antiques, wrapping creative gifts for every occasion and being with family and friends. She loved the outdoors and she loved all God’s creatures, great and small. Evelyn was a Christian and kept Ecclesiastes, Chapter Three, close to her heart.

She is survived by her devoted niece and nephew, Cindy Jackson Taylor and Mike Taylor of Lufkin; nieces, Lisa Jenkins Boetzer of Scotts Valley, California, Tia Jenkins Miranda of Denver, Colorado and Leigh Ann Jenkins Frazier of Douglassville, Pennsylvania; and special Lufkin friends, Cissy Seely and Jacqui Johnston.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, Billy Lee Burklow; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Cleo Jackson; and brother and sister-in-law, Frank E. and Betty Jenkins.

The family wishes to express its deepest thanks and appreciation to MRC PineCrest Retirement Community, Evelyn’s home for the past 11 years, and especially to Trina Mantilla, who cared for Evelyn with love and devotion.
