Ethel Lee Burnham

Funeral services for Ethel Lee Burnham, 89 of Newton will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church in Newton with Reverend Anthony Brown officiating and Apostle Traundey Byerly giving the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Liberty Community Cemetery in Newton.

Mrs. Burnham was born October 15, 1936 in Morton, Mississippi to the late Rosie Lee (Myers) and Tom Flanagan, and passed away Monday, May 25, 2026 at MD Anderson Cancer Center surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Burnham had resided in Newton most of her life and spent her career caring for others in the healthcare field. She was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Grover L. Burnham, Sr. of Newton; daughters, Gwend Burnham Simmons of Bon Weir, Bedellia Ann Burnham of Manassas, Virginia, Tammy Burnham of Newton; sons, Grover L. Burnham, Jr. of Amarillo, Arnold Burnham and wife Meldia of Jasper; grandchildren, Bryan Curry of Newton, Christopher Simmons of Bon Weir, Dalton Simmons and wife Essence of Bon Weir, Ja’Carie Burnham, Avante Burnham, both of Houston; Kaleb Burnham of Jasper; great-grandchildren, Londyn, Aniyah, Alyvia Simmons, Ashton Simmons; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Bradford Burnham and Stadford Burnham; son-in-law, Derrell Simmons; two brothers, and six sisters.

Pallbearers will be Todd Byerly, Renwick Byerly, Willie Byerly, Chris White, Donnell White, and Michael Byerly.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bryan Curry, Christopher Simmons, Dalton Simmons, Ja’Carie Burnham, Avante Burnham, Kaleb Burnham, and Ashton Simmons.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning prior to the service at the church.
