Ernest served in the Corps of Cadets as commanding officer, where he received the Fritz Award as outstanding company officer from among 32 companies. He was a member of the Ross Volunteers for two years and chosen as one of the top ten military cadets in the nation his senior year. Ernest was a past president of Friends of the Ellen Trout Zoo and former member of Rotary. In retirement, he enjoyed serving his church with friends and fellow retirees where they tackled small and large projects. He was a passionate hunter and outdoorsman and enjoyed training squirrel dogs while also attending his grandchildren’s baseball games and dance recitals. He was a skilled woodworker and problem solver. Ernest was a loyal friend to many and a faithful husband, father, and grandfather.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents.
