Graveside services for Erma Nell Thompson Lee, 89, of Austin will be held Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Zion Hill Cemetery in Friday, Trinity County, Texas with Brother Steve Cowart officiating. Following the services you are invited to a celebration of life reception being held at 12:30 p.m. at the Friday Community Center in Friday.
Nell was born October 21, 1929 in Snyder, Texas to the late William Eugene Lee and Eva Faye (Hudson) Lee Mattix, and passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019 in Austin. She graduated from Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. While attending school and after graduation, she worked at Walgreens where she met her husband, Murphy.
Nell was married to Murphy Henry Thompson March 6, 1948. After they were married they moved from Corpus Christi to Houston. Their daughter Sharon was born in 1952 in Houston. Murphy and Nell were married for over 32 years until his death December 9, 1981.
Nell worked for Galena Park State Bank, Deer Park State Bank, and for many years was the accounting director of American Can Company Credit Union until the company merged with Mosher Steel Company in 1983.
Nell married Willie B. Lee May 6, 1983. They transferred from Houston to Ville Platte, Louisiana with Cameron Oil Works until retiring to the Lake Sam Rayburn area in 1995. They were married for almost 30 years until his death February 9, 2013.
Nell worked hard and also enjoyed cooking, fishing/boating, music, sewing, gardening, and traveling with family and friends. She was actively involved in Lakewood Baptist Church until moving to Austin in 2013 to be closer to her family.
Nell is survived by her daughter, Sharon Gibbons and husband Richard of Austin; granddaughters, Stacey Meyer and husband John of Round Rock and Michelle Busby and fiancé Dustin Bippus of Austin; great- grandchildren, Kelsey Meyer Cadwell and husband Cory, Joshua Meyer and wife Frances, Kaylee Meyer, Chelsea Bippus, Chace Bippus, Phoenix Busby, and Finlea Busby; great-great-grandchildren, Camille Meyer, Colton Cadwell, Calvin Cadwell, Virginia Meyer, and Evelyn Cadwell; sisters, Nona Whitworth of Waco and Oma Huckleberry of Salem, Indiana; brother, Richard Mattix and wife Stephanie of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Betty Thompson of Friday, Norma Jean Bila of Leander, and Shirley Thompson of Friday; plus many cherished nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; beloved sister, Helen L. Plant; and valued brother, Donald E. Lee.
Pallbearers will be Richard Gibbons, John Meyer, Joshua Meyer, Richard Mattix, Dustin Bippus, and Lloyd Teal.
