Elmer Dominey

Funeral services for Elmer Dominey, 95, of Huntington will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Kent Childers and Ted Ivy officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery.

Elmer was born September 21, 1928 in Shawnee Prairie, Texas and died on his 95th birthday in Houston Hospice. He was the eighth child of William Thomas Dominey and Rebecca Eugene Davis.

He attended school in Shawnee Prairie Central Heights and Huntington. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Elmer grew up loving to ride horses. He and his good friend, Ted Ivy, spent many afternoons riding. He also loved to hunt and fish.

Elmer was a hard worker and a family man. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild who knew him as “Pop”. He started his first job raising and selling watermelons. At the age of 14 he went to work for an ice company where he later purchased his own trucks and made home ice deliveries. With the invention of electric refrigerators and no longer a need for home delivery, he went to work for Holsum Bread as a salesman where he later retired. He was free hearted and was known for giving honeybuns to the young and elderly. After retirement from the bread company, he purchased and owned his own 18 wheeler and continued to work in the trucking industry for several years.

Survivors include his twin brother, Everett Dominey of Victoria; daughters, Sandra Taylor and Brenda Ogg, both of Lufkin, Connie Martin of Frankston; son, Charlie Dominey of Peoria, Arizona; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Berdie Goldsberry Dominey; his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
