Elaine Nerren

November 27, 1928 — September 6, 2023

Funeral services for Martha Elaine Nerren, 94, of Huntington will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Huntington First Baptist Church with Dr. Darryl Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Rocky Springs/Old Center Cemetery.

Elaine was born November 27, 1928 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Essie (Smith) and Melvin Arnold, and died Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in a local hospice facility.

Elaine (or Mimi as her family called her) was known for enjoying hosting gatherings for many occasions, most of which included 42 tournaments with friends, and holidays with family. She loved having her family around her and made sure everyone had a wide variety of her homemade desserts to enjoy. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of caring for her home and making sure it was exquisitely decorated for each season and holiday (Christmas was her favorite). She and her husband Jim loved sitting outside observing “the place” from “the hill”, watching the cows, hay being cut, and taking in many beautiful sunsets together.

During her working years Elaine owned and operated a beauty salon in Huntington, where she had many memorable conversations with clients and friends. She was also a wonderful artist, and her beautiful paintings may be found in the homes of the people she loved. Elaine worked hard to provide a good life for her sons as they grew up and strongly loved and supported her husband. She taught her family the value of hard work and it was reflected in her daily life. After her retirement she focused her time and attention to tirelessly taking care of Jim until his death in 2009.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny and Renee Nerren, Lonnie and Debbie Nerren, all of Huntington; grandchildren and spouses, Shane and Shellie Nerren, Blake Nerren, Rance and Shelby Nerren, and Leah Nerren; great-grandsons and wives, Justin and Maria Nerren, Zach Nerren and Taylor Tashe, and Chase Nerren; great-great-grandchildren, Case Nerren, Cole Nerren, and Hadley Nerren; sister, Nelda Divers of Anna; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband “Jim” Monroe Nerren; brother, Robert Dan Arnold; and sister, Jean Lowery.

Pallbearers will be Justin Nerren, Zach Nerren, Shane Nerren, Blake Nerren, Rance Nerren, and Chad Arnold.
