Elaine Ashburn

February 13, 1934 — February 19, 2022

Sarah Elaine Ashburn, of Richardson, TX went to her eternal home with Jesus, on February 19, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Ashburn, Jr., her parents Otis O. and Ida Mae Rountree, and brother, Richard Rountree.

Elaine's rich legacy will live on through her family. She was a loving, devoutly Christian wife and mother and is survived by children, Lawrence Douglas Ashburn and wife Susan, Otis Keith Ashburn and wife Rebecca and Sarah Catherine (Ashburn) Markussen and husband Stuart; grandchildren, Joshua Keith Ashburn and wife Meagan, Elyse  Nicole Ashburn and husband Paul Fain, Brandt Taylor Markussen and wife Meredith and Kori Michelle Markussen; great-grandchildren, Justin Keith and Ethan Oliver Ashburn, Loralei Ashburn Fain and Claire Olivia, Kate Taylor, Annie Harper and Beckett Wells Markussen; special sister-in-law, Mary Florence Hager and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elaine was born in Henderson, TX on February 13, 1934. She was raised in Gilmer, Texas and graduated from Gilmer High School and attended the University of Texas in Austin. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. While at the University of Texas, she met a tall, lanky “Aggie” known to his friends as Ash (Lawrence Ashburn, Jr.). She and Ash were married on August 26, 1952 and remained married until his death in 2016.

Before retirement she had worked in a construction business and a Shaklee distributorship with Ash. She worked part time at Geomap in Richardson and at the Dallas Apparel Mart during seasonal markets. She was on the staff at Pine Cove Camp in Tyler for many years.

Elaine was actively involved as a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) and the Republican Women's Club of Richardson. She was an active participant in her small group at Woodcreek Church. She and Ash were instrumental in the creation of the Care Group for the Fellowship Bible Church in Plano for those residing in the Carrollton area. She was an unrelenting fighter for any cause that she deemed worthy, especially the fight to keep the Alamo under the control of the DRT. She was always an advocate for seniors and the struggles of those on a fixed income.

She was an outgoing person that made friends easily wherever she went and was fiercely loyal to those friends. As much as her family and friends will miss her presence here on Earth, they rejoice greatly in her entrance into her eternal home with Jesus and know there was a great celebration upon her arrival.

A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at 10 AM on March 4, 2022, at Woodcreek Church in Richardson, Texas.
