Funeral services for Edguina "Nene" Curry, 69, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John W. Greene and Pastor Todd Core officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Ms. Curry was born on December 12, 1956, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Aliene (Harris) Curry and Edward Earl Curry, and passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at a local hospice facility.
A lifelong resident of Lufkin, Ms. Curry retired from Burke Center, where she served as an Administrative Assistant in the Billing Department for 24 years.
Ms. Curry was deeply devoted to her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Dede". She supported them in every endeavor and lovingly raised numerous Scottie dogs, each of which she cherished. She was also part of a close-knit group of lifelong friends, known as the "YaYas", whose friendship began in school and continued throughout their adult lives. She was an avid reader. Her favorite past time was sitting in her favorite chair with her dog in her lap and a good book in her hand. She also treasured time spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Chrissy and Chris Smith of Hudson; her son and daughter-in-law, Jamey and Bree Lucas of Lufkin; her grandchildren, Shepard Smith, Noah Smith, Selah Smith, Killian Lucas, and Ruby Lucas; her sisters and brother-in-law, Nelda Mosley, Sible and Jimmy Hancock, all of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; her beloved Scottie, Daisy; and her dear friend and neighbor, Linda Conner.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice in the Pines for taking such good care of our mother with compassion and kindness.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones August 9, 2026, at Carroway Funeral Home: 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.
