Ed Kellie Mays, Jr.

Funeral services for Ed Kellie Mays, Jr. 80, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with  Brother Kent Childers officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Ed, known to his friends and family as “Buddy”, was born October 8, 1942 in Jasper, Texas to the late Edith Joan (Miller) and Ed Kellie Mays. He passed away Friday, June 30, 2023 after a lengthy illness following surgery.

Buddy graduated from Jasper High School where he participated in football and baseball. He then attended Sam Houston State University where he was on the Bearcat baseball team. Upon graduation he began his career in the cement industry as a very successful sales representative. Buddy was an avid golfer and exceptional fan of Texas High School football. He will be missed for his sense of humor and his devotion to his many close friends, family, and associates.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; their children, Greg Mays, Sheri Mays, and Audra Mays Maiden and husband Joey; granddaughter, Savannah Davis whose father is Leonard Davis from Tarkington, Texas; brother, Dr. Max Mays and wife Laura; nephews, Kellie Mays, Matthew Mays; niece, Amanda Mays Childress; and numerous other relatives.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon prior to the service.
