Earlin Wayne Stuart

Funeral services for Earlin Wayne Stuart, 96, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gary Rowe officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Stuart was born April 3, 1928 in Huntington, Texas to the late Annie Mae (Bethard) and Willie Stuart, and died peacefully Sunday, December 29, 2024 at his residence.

Mr. Stuart attended high school in Huntington, Texas and received his GED through his service in the United States Air Force. He joined the Air Force in May of 1946 and served at San Bernadino Air Force Base in California, until his discharge in May of 1949. He worked as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic during his service and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.

While in the service, he met the love of his life, Lucy Bedoya, who was a clerk at Kress, a Five and Dime store. After many visits to the store, they began dating and married on July 3, 1948, in San Bernadino, California.

After leaving the service, Wayne was a Pipeliner for three years, which gave him and Lucy various travel opportunities. They moved to Nederland, Texas to begin a career with Texaco, where he worked for 30 years before retirement. They returned to Huntington after retirement and enjoyed time together camping, fishing and square dancing.

Survivors include his wife of 76-½ years, Lucy Stuart of Lufkin; nephews, Robert Telford and wife Sheila, DeWayne Telford, all of Lufkin; nieces, Lisa Smith and husband Randy of Port Neches, Sheila Bass and husband James of Nederland; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be DeWayne Telford, Bryan Anglin, Chris Moss, Kyle Telford, and Robert Telford.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hulon Rayburn, Jim Wood, and Ted Ivy.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon prior to the service.
