Dusty Hutson

August 25, 1954 — August 18, 2022

On August 18, 2022, at the age of 67, “Dusty” David Michael Hutson, left the building to be with his Lord and Savior after a brief stay in the Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Grapevine Texas. He was a caring son, loving uncle, great brother, and a valued friend. Dusty was always there to listen, pray, and lend a helping hand to anyone who asked for help.

Dusty was born August 25, 1954 in Marshall, Texas. He was the oldest of 3 children, the son of the Reverend Medford and Dorothy Hutson. His life started in East Texas, mainly in Lufkin. In 4th grade, God called his family to move to Utah living in both Cedar City and Richfield.  Dusty loved high school athletics, exceled in football both as a junior and senior for the Richfield High School Wildcats. He graduated from Sevier Valley Technical School and then he moved back to Lufkin for his working life.

Dusty was a leader, he had vision, he was an entrepreneur, and he was always looking for the next best thing. He was successful as a puppet master, a business owner, a sports photographer, a sound and lighting master (toured with the Michael Murphy Band), he produced advertising promotions for Brookshire Brothers, D1 College jumbo screen scoreboards technician, and the videographer for the Stephen F. Austin Athletic Department.

Dusty exercised his God given gift of servant leadership. Just like his Dad, Dusty was civic minded, helping many organizations in Lufkin such as the Lions Club, Jaycees, Historical & Creative Arts Center, Service League, the Lufkin High School Athletic department, and especially Carpenter’s Way Baptist Church. His best gig was filming the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader tryouts for 10 years. He never got a paycheck or much recognition, but he said the benefits were crazy awesome! Oh Dusty!

Survivors: two brothers, Paul and Stacia Hutson of Euless, Texas and Mark and June Hutson of Buchanan Dam, Texas; nieces and nephews, Christopher and wife Jessica with daughters Palmer and Monroe, also Bayley, Jackson, Jenna, Katie, and Kegan; great-nephew, Haiden; and his faithful dog, Chewy!

Dusty was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Medford and Dorothy Hutson, and his 3 dogs, Sam, Ditto, and Bob.

A memorial service celebrating Dusty’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m.  Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Carpenter’s Way Baptist Church located at 400 N. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin Texas. Sweet tea, chips, and queso (his favorite snacks) will be served in his honor.
