Graveside services for Dovie L. Hood, 98, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery with Dr. John W. Greene officiating.
Dovie Lucille Carr Hood was born October 16, 1919 in Hector, Arkansas to the late Artie (Cossey) and Theodore Carr, and departed this life Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in San Augustine. She has joined her husband of 68 years, Woodrow, and daughter, Wanda Marie, in the halls of Heaven. Surely there is much rejoicing.
Dovie, “Granny”, as she was known to her family and most everyone she was around, has been successful to leave a heritage that precedes this family and, Lord willing, will continue until the Lord comes to get us, providing we remain faithful to the call on our lives.
We have, every one of us, lived under the watchful prayers of this warrior of a woman. She was consistent to always ask us our prayer needs. We knew she would pray. Even when we found ourselves in a jam the first thought was to call Granny to pray for us. Many times we were all recipients of her prayer language.
Those of us who remain will remember this strong woman who lived alone after Woodrow left well into her 90’s. We are grateful for her watchful prayers over us and her counsel.
We who remain behind for now include her son-in-law, Lavan Watts; granddaughters, Ana Watts and Mark, Amy Wych and Mark, and Aran Greene and Kris; great-grandchildren, Amanda Burns and Jay, Garrett, Warren, Emma, Audra, Ava, and Elayna Greene, and Natalie and Ruth Wych; and great-great-granddaughters, Jo and Sam Burns.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Woodrow Hood; and daughter, Wanda Marie Watts.
It is with grateful hearts that we thank the folks at Colonial Pines Health Care Facility in San Augustine, Texas for their love and gentle care of Dovie. Dovie was a resident in The Women’s Wing. From the very first day she was accepted and actually thrived from all the attention and excellent care.
Although Dovie was only on hospice care for a very short time, folks from Affinity Hospice in Center, Texas helped make her comfortable and showed her love in her last days.
We as a family could not have found anyone who showed such tender love any more than these wonderful nurses who gave so much.
Pallbearers will be Kris Greene, Garrett Greene, Warren Greene, Mark Wych, Jay Burns, and Roger Officer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Watts, John Wojhan, Joel Wier, and nephew, Roger Moore.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Library at Harmony Hill Baptist Church, 2708 S. Chestnut Street, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
We will be with Dovie from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home in Huntington. All are welcome to be with us.
