Funeral services for Doris Marie Shoemaker Stokes, 80, of Hudson will be held Monday, August 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mardy Guidry officiating. Interment will follow in the Wallace Chapel Cemetery.
Ms. Stokes was born February 3, 1938 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Novice (Adams) and E.L. “Bud” Shoemaker, and died Friday, August 10, 2018 in a local hospital.
Ms. Stokes was a lifetime resident of Hudson. She retired from the Transportation Department at Lufkin ISD and also owned The Gift Box. Ms. Stokes was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Terri Stokes of Longview; daughters and son-in-law, Connie and David Williams and Cindy Jones, all of Hudson; grandchildren and spouses, Amanda Stokes, Eric Stokes, Rusty and Ashley Pitts, Dusty Pitts, Brian and Megan Pitts, Brent and Stephanie Pitts, Brandon and Amanda Jones, and Everett Jones; 10 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Lurlean and Louie Lawson of Zavalla; sister-in-law, Nancy Shoemaker of Hudson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Elmer “Buddy” Shoemaker; son-in-law, Robert Jones; and nephew, Darryl Lawson.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Pitts, Dusty Pitts, Brian Pitts, Brent Pitts, Brandon Jones, Everett Jones and Barrett Newsom.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, P.O. Box 151125, Lufkin, Texas 75915.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
