Funeral services for Doris Jean Forrest Phillips, 86, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Pastor Jonathan Yates and Chaplain Erica Shapaka officiating. Interment will follow in Shofner Cemetery. Those who wish may wear green in honor of her favorite color.
Doris Jean Forrest Phillips was born on July 09, 1939, to the late Addie (Johnson) and R.C. “Dick” Forrest, Sr. She passed peacefully from this life at home surrounded by family and friends, Saturday March 07, 2026.
Jean graduated from Lufkin High School in 1956 and attended Pineywoods Business College. She retired from the office of Dr. C.H. McClure. Jean was a devoted Christian and member of Keltys United Methodist Church and enjoyed the years she spent as a reading mentor. She had a passion for reading and loved sharing books with others. Music was another joy in her life and she attended many concerts over the years. Above all, Elvis was her favorite.
Family and friends were the heart of Jean’s life. She had a gift for making others feel special, loved and truly cared for. Her home was always open. She welcomed others with a warm smile, encouraging words and a caring heart. Jean had a way of lifting others up. She checked on others through calls, texts and thoughtful cards. These acts of love will be deeply missed but the unconditional love and kindness she shared will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Renee Hinz of New London and Regina “Tuffy” and Doug Beasley of Lufkin; her sister, Joann Ray of Palestine; sister-in-law, Carolyn Phillips; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray K. Phillips; son-in-law, Steven Hinz; sister, Nell (Hardy) Shoemaker; brother, R.C. (Louise) Forrest, Jr.; brother-in-law, James F. Ray; and special cousin, Bob Johnson.
She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Stephen and Nora Phillips; brothers and sisters-in-law, Acie (Wilma) Nolen, Kizzie (Marvin) Ivy Virgil (Annie Mae) Phillips, Paul Phillips, Mary (Johnnie) Toney, Dolly (Doc) Modisette, Tip (Sue) Phillips, Lyndell (Beth) Phillips, Fannie Beth Phillips, and Billy Wayne Phillips.
Pallbearers will be Mack Barnhill, Eric Kupec, Joe Loft, Bill Malnar, Leon Parker, and Anthony Ross.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
