Donald Ray Jackson, 94, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 21, 1932, to Charles Rose Jackson and Ada Lee Hull Jackson in Gorman, Texas, Donald was the youngest of eight children. He lived a long and remarkable life defined by hard work, unwavering faith, generosity, and a genuine love for people.
Donald proudly served his country in the United States Navy, stationed in the Pacific and serving as a military policeman at the time of his discharge.
A longtime resident of Lufkin, Texas, Donald made his home there from 1975 until 2024, when he moved to Plano to be closer to family. He retired from Lufkin Industries, but retirement certainly didn't mean he stopped working. Known throughout the area for his exceptional skill as a motor winder, Donald continued operating his own shop for another 25 years, providing a specialized service to local businesses and individuals. His knowledge and craftsmanship made him a trusted resource throughout the community.
Donald had a larger-than-life personality, a quick wit, and a wonderful sense of humor. He never missed an opportunity to share a joke, and his presence could fill a room. He valued family and friendships deeply, maintaining relationships throughout his life and leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
An avid music enthusiast, Donald amassed an extensive collection of music and took great pleasure in recording tapes and CDs for anyone who asked. He was equally generous with his woodworking talents, handcrafting more than 100 cedar chairs for young children and giving them to families, often without accepting anything in return. These little chairs became lasting reminders of his kindness and the joy he found in giving to others.
A man of strong Christian faith, Donald loved the Lord and cherished his church family at Solid Rock Church in Lufkin, where he was a devoted member during his later years in the community. His faith was an important part of his life and reflected in the generosity and kindness he extended to others.
Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Ruth Jackson; his stepson, Tommy Stuart; his stepdaughter, Janie McGill; his parents, Charles Rose and Ada Lee Jackson; and his seven siblings, Mabel Ola Jackson Todd, Mildred Lee Jackson Duncan, Charles M. Jackson, Marie E. Jackson, Helen D. Jackson Holcomb, Syble P. Jackson, and Billy June Jackson.
He is survived by his son, Donnie Ray Jackson; his stepson, Randy Stuart; stepson-in-law, Jim McGill; stepdaughter-in-law, Laurie Stuart; and a large and loving extended family that includes many nieces and nephews, and more than 40 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Donald's legacy lives on through the generations of family he leaves behind, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched. He will be remembered for his laughter, his faith, his remarkable talents, and a generous spirit that made the world a little brighter for those around him.
