Services for Donald Wayne Carr, 64, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 12:00 noon at the Sunset Mausoleum in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Pastor Mark Newton officiating.
Mr. Carr was born October 1, 1954 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Billie (Cannon) and Wayne Carr, and died Monday, May 20, 2019 at his residence.
Mr. Carr was a 1973 graduate of Lufkin High School and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians but chose to attend and play baseball for San Jacinto College. He graduated from the University of Texas and loved Longhorn sports. He was a coach and teacher at Jasper ISD, Lufkin ISD, and retired from Corrigan ISD. He helped lead Corrigan to a State Football Championship in 1988. He loved golf, fishing and hunting, football and baseball, but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Lufkin First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jason R. and Beth (Walker) Carr of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Gustavo E. Monsante of Lufkin; grandchildren, Kristen Carr, Kade Carr, Liliana Monsante, and Kyle Carr, all of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Connie Carr of Lufkin; mother-in-law, LaJune Bradley of Lufkin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Randy and Carol Bradley of Lufkin, Rick and Cindy Bradley of The Woodlands, David and Emily Bradley of League City; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Robin and Blake Latson of McKinney; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and Jr. High sweetheart, Cathy Ann (Bradley) Carr; and brother, Lester Carr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Nicholson, John Havard, Bubba Holland, Mickey Bowser, and Bo Thompson.
The family extends special thanks to Shinetta Spencer, Stephanie Price, and all the other caregivers for their love and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, Colorado 80112 or the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
Following the services, the family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
