Graveside services for Dolores V. Nick, 88, of Hudson will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Largent Cemetery.
Mrs. Nick was born November 16, 1934 in Los Angeles, California to the late Paz (Martinez) and Jesus Romo Valadez, and died Saturday, April 1, 2023 in a local hospice facility.
Mrs. Nick resided in Pasadena, California before moving to Texas. She was actively involved with her church and Latin community growing up. She attended Pasadena City College as an Art major. Mrs. Nick was a ballroom and folklorico dance instructor for Veloz and Yolanda Dance Studio, now Fred Astaire Studios in Los Angeles County. In 1954 she was crowned queen of Churubusco Reina in Pasadena, California by actor Ricardo Montalbàn. She was on the 10th Anniversary episode of the Ozzie and Harriet Show in 1961.
Mrs. Nick was a retired cosmetologist in Hudson. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lufkin.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Joe H. Nick; children and spouses, David and Tammy Nick, Susan and Heath Hand, Lola Nick and Wade Jolley, Linda and Jamie Dowthitt; grandchildren, Zack Nick, Taylor Dugan, Colten Nick, Kyle Williams, Seth Williams, Megan Dowthitt, Haley Barker, Dillon Dowthitt, Jacki Kowen, and Lucus Hand; great-grandchildren, Cooper Nick, Edith Dugan, Nora Hand, Avery Kowen, and Elizabeth Kowen; sisters and brother-in-law, Teresa and Tony Alvarado and Lupe Reyes; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Nick and Carmen Nick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Florence Robledo, Vicki Gonzales, and Maria Resendez; and brothers, Carm Valadez, Joe Valadez, and Mauricio Valadez.
