Dewayne Weldon

A visitation for Dewayne Weldon, 88, of Huntington will be held Friday, February 13, 2026 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Carroway Funeral Home in Lufkin. Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Congregational Church with The Reverend Randall K. Green officiating. Cremation arrangements will be under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Dewayne Weldon was born January 23, 1938, in the Cenchrea Community of Sabine Parrish, Louisiana, and died Friday, February 6, 2026 in Lufkin, Texas. He was born the first child of Bessie and Milton Weldon and grew up in the Florien area.

After graduating from Florien High School, Dewayne went on to earn his BS in Forestry from Louisiana Tech. He received a master’s degree in Forest Products Utilization at Duke University and did additional post-graduate work in Wood Technology at Michigan State. Dewayne was the author of several publications on wood product utilization and a member of many professional organizations. He began work at Texas Forest Service Forest Products Lab in 1964 and was named Head of the department in 1973. Dewayne had a life-long love of birds and became involved in breeding, showing and judging exhibition Budgerigars. He was respected around the world and made many life-long friends.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; children, Kevin, Kerry and wife Sharyn, Ava and husband Terry, Kate and husband Jon, and Meghan and husband Michael; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and an extended much-loved family of cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Kendall and Aaron; brothers, Truitt and Dennis; and sister, Gloria.
