Derrick Levias

Visitation for Derrick “Big D” or “Mr. Diboll” Levias, 53, of Diboll will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Carroway Funeral Home. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Derrick was born November 22, 1969 in Lufkin, Texas to Ruth Hazel (Calhoun) and W.G. Levias, Jr., and died Wednesday, December 28, 2022 in a local hospital.

Derrick had worked as an AEP Teacher Aide and Crossing Guard at Diboll ISD for 28 years. He was a gentle giant, but his motto was “Strict, Firm, and Fair”. Big D was a father to every child that God placed in his journey on this earth. He was a mentor, father figure, teacher, friend, and source of comfort to so many. That was evidenced by his devotion to working with area youth at the Boys and Girls Club for over 30 years.

Mr. Diboll, as he was affectionately known, loved attending all the area football, volleyball, track, and other sporting events and was proud to be a loyal fan of the Diboll Lumberjacks. In his free time, he enjoyed trail riding with his Regulator and Big Body Riders Groups and listening to his favorite Zydeco music.

Whether you knew him as Derrick, Mr. Diboll, or Big D, you knew one of God’s special gifts to this world. He loved big, cared big, and was bigger than life itself. He was the love of Rebecca’s life, and their time together was full of laughter. Big D has left a mark on so many young lives and he will be missed dearly. Heaven has gained a true angel.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Rebecca Levias of Diboll; mother, Ruth Levias of Diboll; sister, Cassundra “Sookie” Levias of Diboll; brothers, Charles “Poncho” Levias and Jonathan “Popeye” Levias, both of Diboll; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, W.G. Levias, Jr.
