Dennis Neil Walker

April 12, 1964 — November 21, 2024

Funeral services for Dennis Neil Walker, 60, of Huntington will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Carl Ray Walker and Dana Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Ben Walker Cemetery.

Dennis Neil Walker was born April 12, 1964 to Carl Ray and Chloe (Bass) Walker and went to Heaven Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the home of his sister, LaRae Sanford, with his family at his side, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was very tough and strong-willed as he battled the last six years, never complaining. With the help of his family, he fought hard.

Dennis worked faithfully as Supervisor of his department at Cal-Tex Lumber Company in Nacogdoches for 17 years. Later, during a break in cancer, he worked at Lufkin Creosoting Company for a while.

Dennis loved horses and rode from the time he was a small boy. He could ride all day long. He loved going to horse and cattle auctions with his Daddy Walker and Pa Bass, and later with his daddy, siblings, and his kids.

He had the gift of music and played the guitar and sang from a young age. He practiced for hours in his room, hearing a song and learning to play and sing it. As a teenager, our home was filled with his friends, with him playing and singing. He sang at Hudson School and won awards in FFA. He sang in the Ag Shop with the encouragement of his Ag teacher, Mr. Steve. He played and sang at church, family gatherings, and to his kids at night to get them to sleep.

He raised three children, working hard on Saturdays taking them to Boudin Lake, Boykin Springs, the zoo, and to places like the Alamo.

He was saved and baptized at Westwood Baptist Church and attended church where his dad pastored through the years.

Survivors include his daughters, Jessica Walker and Jamie Walker; grandchildren, Makayla, Colten and Cheyenne Walker and Dan and Jeremy Delasondro; parents, Carl Ray and Chloe Walker; brother, Dana Lee Walker; sisters, Carla Smith, LaRae Sanford and Cynthia Deschner; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Welcoming him to Heaven were his son, Joe Buck Walker; brother, Jeremy Walker, niece, Cara Murry; nephew, Robert Smith; grandparents, Carl and Elsie (Carrell) Walker and Victor and Hazel (Durham) Bass; brother-in-law, Ory Sanford; and a number of aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers will be Danny Plemons, Dony Harris, Robert Havard, Edgar Rodgers, Gary Powell, and James Gibson.

Honorary pallbearers will be John David Bass, Sr., Dobber Bass, Vic Bass, and Glenn Bass.
