April 18, 1926 — April 4, 2025

The family of Delbert Parrott invites friends to join them for a graveside service at Garden of Memories Memorial Park on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. with son-in-law, Bruce Main officiating.

Delbert Williss Parrott was born April 18, 1926, in Broaddus,Texas, the second child of Ollie Lee Parrott and Artilla Mabel Douglass Parrott, and entered the presence of his Lord on April 4, 2025. In 1928, the family moved to Zavalla, Texas, where Delbert attended school until his junior year when he enlisted in the Navy on December 26, 1944, and was assigned to the 4th Special Seabees Battalion on April 28, 1945. He served in Okinawa and Japan and was honorably discharged on June 29, 1946.

That summer, Delbert had a job building houses until he returned to Zavalla High School to complete his senior year while also working as a school bus driver. Upon graduation, he enrolled in Pineywoods Business College, worked at jobs as a laborer, and earned a degree in Traffic Management.

Delbert’s varied job experiences as well as his natural abilities equipped him to become a master builder, handyman and gardener—skills that he employed throughout this life to serve his family as well as neighbors, friends, churches, and various community service organizations such as Christian Information and Service Center (CISC), Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC), GODTEL Ministries, and Christ Ministries Of Texas, Inc. That heart for service, according to Delbert, came from his desire to serve his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Delbert began his Post Office career on September 8, 1948, and retired November 1, 1985. During many of those years, he also served as the office manager of Angelina Federal Employees Credit Union. In addition, Delbert was an active member of First Baptist Church (choir member, 6th-Grade Sunday School Superintendent, Adult IV Sunday School Superintendent, cook for special gatherings), National Association of Letter Carriers, National Active and Retired Federal Employees, VFW, and American Legion.

On August 6, 1949, Delbert married Jennie Breeden (1928-1965). After cancer took Jennie’s life, Delbert married his childhood friend, Ivaline (Kirkland) McKinney.

Delbert is survived by the following children, Patricia Parrott Main and husband Bruce of West Chicago, Illinois, Carolyn Parrott Deibler of Georgetown, Texas, Judy McKinney Maddux and husband “Bud”, and Bert McKinney and wife Sally, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Melanie Main Marr of West Chicago, Kim Selman Lovelace and husband Mike, Katie McKinney Baker and husband Matt, Andrew McKinney and wife Bonnie, all of Lufkin; Michael Selman and wife Beth of Dallas; April Stanbery of Lufkin; and Marci Brentham of Salado; great-grandchildren, Rohan Marr and Lorelai Marr of West Chicago; Kortney Lovelace Platt and husband Clint, Kyle Lovelace and wife Kyla, Natalie Baker, Elizabeth Baker, Sylvie Baker, Barrett McKinney, and Scarlett McKinney, all of Lufkin, Piper Selman and Remy Selman of Dallas, Tanner Myers and wife Lillie, Baylee Page and Sloan, Calynn Stanbery, and Carson Frankens and wife Jayla, all of Lufkin; Hunter Dezern of Georgetown; Cole Brentham of Belton; and Chloe Cortes and husband Rob of Austin; great-great-grandchildren, Cooper Platt, Cannon Platt, Chandler Platt, Lyla Myers, Knox Myers, Steele Page, Averly Frankens, Rylen Frankens, and Roman Cortes; sisters-in-law, Peggy Parrott and husband Edward of Houston, Carole Parrott and husband James of Smyrna, Tennessee, and Leigh Parrott and husband Buford; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins,
