Funeral services for David LaDel Pitts, 74, of Wells will be held Monday, June 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Wells with Brother Horace Fletcher and Brother Andrew Pearle officiating. Interment will follow in the Hester Cemetery in Cherokee County.
Mr. Pitts was born December 10, 1943 in Forest, Texas to the late Lilla (McCullough) and M.C. “Dock” Pitts, and died Thursday, June 7, 2018 in a local hospital.
Mr. Pitts was a lifetime resident of Wells and retired from the Texas Department of Transportation following 38 years of employment. He began his career as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, then was promoted to Shop Foreman and retired as the District 11 Equipment Administrator. He was volunteer Fire Chief for the City of Wells for many years. Mr. Pitts was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family referred to him as a “mother hen” because he was always taking care of everyone. He enjoyed fishing and loved the Lord, his family and community, but his greatest joy was his granddaughters. Mr. Pitts taught Sunday school for almost 46 years and was a deacon for 34 years at Calvary Baptist Church in Wells.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Hazel (Durham) Pitts of Wells; daughters, Dayna Michele Burch and husband Thomas of Wells and Dena Marie Perez and husband David of Wylie; granddaughters, Kaley Michele Burch of Wells and Arianna Marie Perez of Wylie; nieces, Hollie Price and husband Johnny of Porter, Amy Pruitt of Longview, and Charla Wyatt of Burkburnett; nephews, Wayne Brewer and wife Sandy of Porter, Tommy Durham and Doug Durham, both of Wells; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Janie Durham of Wells; and a number of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Mignon and Hollis Brewer; and brother-in-law, Douglas Durham.
Pallbearers will be David Perez, Thomas Burch, Reese Hall, Tommy Seymore, James McCaa, Doug Durham, Tommy Durham, and James Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Richardson, Johnny Price, and William Durham.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
