Mr. McGaughey was born October 23, 1949, in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Grace (Clark) and Delmer O. McGaughey. He died Friday, April 26, 2019 at his residence.
Mr. McGaughey was retired from the Power Plant Department of Abitibi Paper Mill following 33 years of service. He developed his strong work ethic at a very young age. When he was just 12 years old, he got his first job working at Otho Jones Grocery; and at age 14, he drove a truck to Houston each week to pick up loads of lumber for Holland Hardware. In his early years, he also worked at Jim Nerren’s Service Station.
Mr. McGaughey never asked anyone for anything. He believed in working hard and making his own way in life. He was a simple and humble man, an avid fisherman and a skilled hunter. He was always thankful and humbled by all he was blessed with.
Mr. McGaughey served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam. He had resided in Huntington all his life.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Nerren McGaughey of Huntington; sons, Shawn McGaughey and wife Leslie, and Brent McGaughey, all of Huntington; daughter, Carlye Womack McGhee and husband Weston of Abilene; grandchildren, Kevin McGaughey, Matt McGaughey, Kayla McGaughey, Michayle Richardson, Tanner Richardson, Colter Richardson, Cash Morris, and Logan Morris; sisters, Daiona McGaughey, Judy Snelson and husband Ed, and Susan Havard and husband Mark, all of Huntington; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lou and James Farrell, Nita and Pete Odstrcil, all of Huntington, Calvin and Charmis Nerren, and Rex Nerren, all of Lufkin; lifelong, faithful friend, Kenneth Carroll of Huntington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mr. McGaughey was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Sam and Edna Nerren; niece, Kelli Boyles; and sister-in-law, Gale Nerren. Gale and David came in to the Nerren Family the same year and left 6 days apart. “Guess they had enough...”
