Memorial services for David William Lyons of Huntington will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Dr. John W. Greene officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
David William Lyons was born December 22, 1954, in Cheboygan, Michigan, and went to his heavenly home July 27, 2024, at the age of 69. He graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1977, where he met his future wife, Rita Ann Lyons. They were married two months after graduation on July 16 in Marion, Indiana. David was ordained as a minister in the Tri-State District of The Wesleyan Church in 1981.
For the next approximately 35 years he pastored churches in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Michigan. Right before he retired from active ministry in 2014, he served as an Assistant Pastor of Cedar Ridge Wesleyan Church in Enid, Oklahoma. He loved preaching and teaching in a group setting, and especially loved to minister to individuals in time of need. He enjoyed writing poetry for various occasions.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rita Lyons, of Huntington; daughter, Janae and husband Michael Wojasinski of Huntington; and three grandsons that he cherished very much…Carson, Elias and Isaac. He loved being “Pepaw” and telling them stories!
He was preceded in death by his younger daughter, Cari Joanna Lyons, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 33; his parents, William and Ova Lyons; and his sister, Colleen Lamont, of Bear Lake, Michigan.
