Mr. Dunman was born May 5, 1936 in Jasper, Texas to Minnie Lee (Stanford) and Terry Winfield Dunman. Upon completing high school, Mr. Dunman served active duty and reserves in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He met the love of his life, Doris Hollingsworth, and married on May 17, 1958. He was employed by the Lufkin Fire Department, advancing to the rank of Battalion Chief. He retired in 1990, proudly serving 32 years.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Arthur Dunman, Sr., who peacefully left this world on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the age of 88. A proud resident of Lufkin, Arthur was known for his unwavering love for family, being a Lufkin fireman, community, and baseball.
Mr. Dunman was a huge Houston Astros fan and rarely missed tuning in for a game. His passion for sports extended beyond the Astros, as he cherished attending family sporting events, always being the biggest supporter in the stands.
When he wasn’t at the ballpark, Arthur found joy in gathering with loved ones for a good old-fashioned fish fry, where laughter, stories, and delicious food were always on the menu. He was also a dedicated VFW bingo caller, bringing excitement to the local veterans and community members.
Mr. Dunman held the distinct honor of being the oldest living retired fireman in Lufkin, a title that spoke to his lifelong dedication to service and bravery.
Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in every Astros game day, every shared meal with family, and every act of service.
