Darlene Henson

A memorial visitation for Darlene Henson, 82, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carroway Funeral Home. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Darlene Henson, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and educator, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2024 with her children, Dana and Teresa, by her side. She was born November 16, 1941 in Nacogdoches.

Darlene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Larry Jauregui of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Dana and Amanda Henson of Lufkin; those who knew her as “Mom II”, her six grandchildren and their spouses, Walker and Kim Phillips of Buda, Weston Phillips of Austin, Lizzie and Collin Hesse, Jacquelyn Jauregui, all of Celina, Charlie Henson and Sammy Henson, both of Buda; great-grandchildren, Liam Walker Phillips and Makenzie Rhea Phillips of Buda, and Louie Hesse and Otto Hesse of Celina. Darlene’s memory is cherished by her siblings and their spouses, Cheryl and Darcy Faircloth of Lufkin, H.C. and Brenda Walker of Lufkin, and Debbie and Nick Miller of Chapel Hill. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who held her dear.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Clovis Ray Henson.

A proud scholar, Darlene earned her Associate of Arts from Angelina College in 1978, her Bachelor of Arts from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1981, and her Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1987. Her career as an educational diagnostician with Lufkin Independent School District, from which she retired in 2017, was marked by her dedication to improving the lives of her students.

An avid genealogist, Darlene had a passion for tracing her family history and connecting with her roots. Her faith was an important part of her life and she was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church.

Darlene will be remembered for her unwavering unconditional  love and her deep commitment to her family.

The family extends special thanks to Accent Home Health, Nurse Amanda, MD Anderson, and Hospice in the Pines for their compassionate care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Darlene’s memory to the charity of your choice.
