Cullen Jewel Barnett

Graveside services for Cullen Jewel Barnett, 91, of Huntington will be held Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Blue Springs Cemetery in Etoile with Brian Garrett officiating.

Mr. Barnett was born October 19, 1927 in Huntington, Texas to the late Sarah A. (Nolen) and James L. Barnett, and died Friday, August 30, 2019 in a local nursing home.

Mr. Barnett had resided in Huntington for nine years and previously resided in Arkansas for 27 years. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a mechanic and worked for Ronnie Dowdy Trucking Company for 17 years. He enjoyed mowing and doing yard work and attending dirt track races. Mr. Barnett loved his church family at Ora Missionary Baptist Church and was known to be a very giving and selfless person. Most of all he loved his family and adored his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.

Survivors include his daughter, Belinda Baumgardner and husband Jim of Huntington; stepdaughter, Elaine Williams and husband Toby of Concord, Arkansas; granddaughters and spouses, Jacqui Williamson and Robert of Vidor, Tristan Will and Jacob of Huntington, Jennifer Rodgers and Kevin of Huntington, Katy Baumgardner of Woodlake, and Sceleta Garrett and Brian of Bradford, Arkansas; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Clinton Martin and wife Normalee of Hemphill; sister-in-law, Reba Barnett of Pineland; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James L. Barnett; mother and stepfather, Sarah A. and Henry J. Nelson; wife, Leda May Jewel (Martin) Barnett; sons, Ricky Lewis and Russell Lewis; grandson, Jimmy Hallmark; sisters, Annie Barnett, Nettie Barnett, Hattie Barnett, and Nell Hester; and brothers, J.L. Barnett and Ollie Barnett.
