It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Cranvil Byron Bragg. A symbol of strength to all who knew him. Byron was born on November 30, 1953, and left us unexpectedly March 6, 2026. Though it feels far too soon, we were blessed with 72 wonderful years of his life.
Never one to back down from a challenge, Byron made his mark in the sport of professional bull riding from the age of 16 until retiring at 30. During that time, he earned many accolades, belt buckles, and championships, including winning the ETRA Bull Riding Championship of 1975. Even after leaving the arena, he continued working with horses and enjoyed ranch rodeo for many years.
He also dedicated 42 years of service to the railroad before retiring in 2016. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time gardening and fishing. He was a lover of the outdoors, sports, reading, working puzzles and, most of all, time spent with family and friends.
Byron was a man who did not waste words. His quiet strength and wicked humor will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who loved him.
He is survived by his mother, Maureen Bragg; his children, Andy Bragg and Amy Bragg Maddocks, and their mother, Veronica Thaxton; his soon-to-arrive grandchild; his longtime companion, Carol Jessup; his daughter-in-law, D’Anna Bragg; and his son-in-law, Jason Maddocks.
He was preceded in death by his father, C.D. Bragg; and his brothers, Ricky Jack Bragg and Carl Randall Bragg.
Byron’s life will be celebrated with a visitation on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Carroway Funeral Home, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Wofford Cemetery in Frankston. We invite all who knew and loved Byron to join us in honoring his memory.
Pallbearers will be James “Bubba” Kesinger, Rob Wells, Keith Dover, Paul Gene Crawford, Caleb Carter, and Johnny “Bubba” Davidson, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Nash, Cliff Davis, Jimmy Bowman and Randall “Rudy” Kendrick.
