Funeral services for Clayton Leon McClure, Sr., 79, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Richard Owen officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.
Mr. McClure was born September 14, 1938 in Olustee, Oklahoma, to the late Helen Irene (Morris) and Claude Ivan McClure, and died Friday, November 3, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. McClure had resided in Lufkin since 1957. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in Turkey for one year. Mr. McClure was a truck driver for many years. His CB handle was “Pontiac Man”. After a house fire in 1977, Mr. McClure’s CB friends in Angelina County helped replace his family’s home. He was the bookkeeper for the Lufkin Radar Base in Central, and had also worked at Ray Davis Construction as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. McClure was of the Assembly of God faith.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Melissa and Tim Crawford of Hudson, Janie James of Nacogdoches, and Barbara Massey of Central; son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Angie McClure of Nacogdoches; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Darla Key of Oklahoma; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Clayton Leon McClure, Jr.; brother, Dwayne McClure; sister, Clynell Key; and the mother of his children, Janice McClure Day.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
